How to Measure Wheel Size the Right Way
Measuring wheel size isn’t just about grabbing a tape measure — accuracy means everything when choosing replacement wheels, tires, or center caps. Watch our quick step-by-step video below to make sure you’re getting perfect fitment every time.
Step-by-Step Overview
- 1. Measure the Diameter: Measure from bead seat to bead seat. If you measure outside edge to outside edge, subtract 1 inch — the lip extends beyond the bead area.
- 2. Measure the Width: Measure across the inside of the wheel from bead seat to bead seat. The outer measurement will typically be 1 inch more.
- 3. Check the Bolt Pattern: Count the number of lugs and measure the distance across from one lug to the opposite. Common patterns include 5x114.3, 6x135, and 8x6.5.
- 4. Look for Stamping: Many alloy wheels have size and offset stamped on the backside of the spokes or hub area.
Why Measuring Correctly Matters
Incorrect measurements can lead to rubbing, clearance issues, or incorrect tire fitment. Accurate sizing ensures your wheel fits your vehicle’s brakes, hubs, and suspension perfectly. At A2i Wheel and Tire, we help you verify fitment before you buy — because the right fit looks and performs better.
